Look closely at the TPC mark and you’ll see a threshold: an arched doorway with its door swung open, and light spilling out across the floor. It is deliberately simple, but it can carry a lot of meaning. Two verses in particular come to mind.

I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

John 10:9 (KJV)

The first is about access. Jesus doesn’t describe himself as a gatekeeper standing in the way, but as the door itself: the way in, the place of welcome.

Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

Revelation 3:20 (KJV)

The second is about friendship. Here Jesus is on the outside, knocking, and what he wants is a meal together. Not an inspection; a table.

Thresholds in ordinary life

A threshold is a small place where large things happen: welcomes, goodbyes, first visits. We hope TPC can be a threshold like that, a place where people take a first step towards Jesus, or a next one.

Questions for reflection

  1. Where do you most need to hear Jesus “knocking” this week?
  2. Who could you open a door to?
